After nearly three decades of having kids and all of them being sons, Kateri Schwandt and husband Jay, both 45, are celebrating a first for their family — a baby girl. The couple who are parents to 14 sons and hail from Lakeview, Michigan, welcomed their daughter, Maggie Jayne, last week in what is surely yet another sign that 2020 is a year like no other. 14 Outdoorsmen

Kateri gave birth to her daughter on Wednesday.

According to the Detroit Free Press, baby Maggie was born weighing 7 lbs., 8 oz. at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and was welcomed into the world by her 14 older brothers: Tyler, Zach, Drew, Brandon, Tommy, Vinny, Calvin, Gabe, Wesley, Charlie, Luke, Tucker, Francisco, and Finley.

Naturally, in a house full of boys, no one quite knows what to expect with a brand-new sister.

In fact, there’s barely anything pink in the Schwandt household, eldest son Tyler, 28, told the newspaper.

“My parents were finally blessed with the little girl they never thought they’d end up having,” he said. “It’s been about 12 hours since my dad told us, and I still haven’t quite wrapped my mind around it. I don’t even know if my mom owns any pink clothing — or anything.”

Tyler thought his parents didn’t have any girl names picked out beforehand — they never suspected a thing.

He explained that Maggie came from his mother’s middle name — Margaret — and Jayne was a feminine play on his dad’s first name, Jay.

“If we were to have a girl, I think we would go into shock,” Kateri told media outlet MLive in 2014.“It would probably be disbelief.”

“The stuff that goes on in this house is all-boy – roughhousing and wrestling,” Jay added. “If there was a little girl in there, I assume it would be different.”

But the parents never gave up hope.

“I’ve experienced all the boy stuff,” he continued. “As long as we are having all these children, it would be really neat to experience the other side.”

And now, they finally will.

Other things in the Schwandt household will have to change now that there’s a girl in the family.

Tyler recently got engaged and is living only 20 minutes away from his parents’ 200-acre farm, the Detroit Free Press reported, but he knows his brothers well enough to know that this will be an adjustment.

Like remembering to put the toilet seat down, for one thing, Tyler joked. That might take years for the rest of the Schwandt clan to get down. He explained that he and his brothers probably won’t get used to thinking about what their sister needs for a little bit.

For years, the Schwandts have been featured in local and national media for their ever-growing family.

They even have their own show on My Outdoor TV network called 14 Outdoorsmen — but perhaps it’s time to retitle the show now that Maggie is here.

“As if 2020 couldn’t any crazier! We are blessed to welcome and announce the birth of our little SISTER, Maggie Jayne,” the family wrote Thursday on the show’s Facebook page. “Her and mom are doing well and we couldn’t be more excited!”

The parents of 15 first met when they were both freshmen at separate high schools.

The pair attended Ferris State University and had three sons before they graduated, the Detroit Free Press stated. They both went on to receive advanced degrees while their family grew — Kateri has a master’s degree in social work from Grand Valley State University, and Jay, who is a land surveyor, holds a law degree from West Michigan University’s Thomas Cooley School of law.

Maggie is another bit of sunshine in a lifetime of so many blessings.

“We are overjoyed and beyond excited to add Maggie Jayne to our family,” Jay told the newspaper. “This year has been memorable in so many ways, for so many reasons, but Maggie is the greatest gift we could ever imagine.” Source 1, Source 2.
