Italian police found in Naples a copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Savior of the World (“Salvator Mundi”) , which is the most expensive painting in the world. This was reported on January 19 by CNN.

The painting was found in the apartment of a 36-year-old man. He was detained on suspicion of receiving stolen goods.

When the painting was stolen is unknown. In 2019, the painting was displayed in the Italian capital at the Leonardo in Rome exhibition. In January 2020, the San Domenico Maggiore Museum in Naples reported that the artwork had returned to them. But the painting was a copy of the painting was painted in 1510 by someone from the workshop of Leonardo da Vinci.

CNN noted that it is not known who exactly created it. The probable author in the Museum of San Domenico Maggiore was named a student of Leonardo Girolamo Alibrandi. They created it in Rome. The painting was brought to Naples by the advisor to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V Giovanni – Antonio Muschettola.

The original painting “Savior of the World” in 2017 was sold at Christie’s auction for $ 450.3 million. It became the most expensive painting in the world. Presumably, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, bought it. Since the sale, the painting has not appeared in public. In 2018, the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum announced it would make it available to the public, but later postponed the presentation. Source 1, Source 2
