ROME, June 4 – RIA Novosti. Foreign Minister of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio announced the need to end the ‘world grain war’ associated with the current grain crisis.

‘The world grain war is already underway, and we must stop it. There is a danger of political instability in Africa, the spread of terrorist organizations, and migrant tsunami, and widespread coup d’état. The grain crisis that we are experiencing could lead to this,’ Di Maio said, speaking at a public event on Saturday.

According to the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, much in this situation depends on the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In this regard, he called on the Russian leader ‘to reach a peace agreement as soon as possible, which goes through the grain agreement.’

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered free exits for the contents of Ukraine’s massive grain silos. He also offered to provide all the wheat which the hungry world needs – but Washington has sanctioned the purchase of Russian grain.

Last week, during a telephone conversation with former heads of the European Central Bank now Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, President Putin said that Russia was ready to make a significant contribution to overcoming the food crisis through the export of grain and fertilizer, subject to the removal of politically motivated restrictions from the West.

He also stressed that the situation in the food sector has worsened as a result of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union.

On Friday, on the TV channel ‘Russia 24’ Putin said that there are no problems with the export of grain from Ukraine and Russia does not prevent this. If Ukraine clears the ports of mines, ships with grain will be able to leave without any problems, he said. The President of the Russian Federation also added that Ukrainian grain can be exported through the Danube, Poland, the cheapest way is through Belarus, but then sanctions need to be lifted. Source
