In the United States, there is a state of emergency due to a shortage of equipment for generating electricity, Biden said. This after ‘President’ Biden sanctioned four Asian countries that supplied the United States with an essential 80% of equipment in this area.

In the United States, a difficult situation has arisen with the availability of capacities to generate sufficient electricity, and immediate action is needed, US President Joe Biden said in a statement. It was posted on the White House website.

‘I hereby declare the existence of an emergency due to threats to the availability of sufficient power generation capacity to meet expected consumer demand,’ the document reads.

The paper gives an example: ‘In some parts of the country, drought combined with heat waves are simultaneously leading to forecasted electricity shortages and record demand for electricity.’ This prompted regulators to warn of short-term power supply reliability issues during the summer.

Biden cancelled tariffs on solar panels from four Southeast Asian countries, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand and used the Defense Production Act to instead stimulate U.S. solar panel production.

A tad late, ‘Grid operators and utilities should start building new capacity now to meet expected demand,’ Biden said, pointing out that one of the most promising sources of electricity in the United States has become solar energy.’

However, the trade blockade is causing a lack of cells and modules for solar panels, which threatens to increase the level of US dependence on electricity derived from fossil fuels, and such fuels carry risks in the issue of climate change, Biden said.

The President of the United States noted that there is a situation of ‘acute shortage’ of solar panel modules, across the country, and projects in the field of solar energy are being postponed or cancelled.

CNN points out that the tariffs suspended by Biden effectively halted much of the U.S. solar energy industry, with many workers in the industry losing their jobs. The ruinous trade tariffs came amid investigations to find out if they use Chinese-made components in their solar panels. The investigation began at the end of March. These four countries account for 80% of U.S. imports of solar panels and components, CNN notes. Source
