EXCLUSIVE – JUNE 6: RIA Novosti. ‘We regard the refusal of the Ukrainian military to defend the useless Kyiv regime led by nationalists as the only right thing to do, not cowardice,’ Russian spokesman Igor Konashenkov stressed.
Ukrainian troops abandoned their equipment and fled from Svyatogorsk despite efforts by ultra-nationalist barrage units to stop them, Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said. According to him, for the purpose of hampering the fleeing troops, ultra-detachments blew up a bridge across the Seversky Donets River.

‘Under the onslaught of Russian units, the remnants of the battalions of the 95th airborne assault brigade and the 81st separate airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine abandoned military equipment along with weapons and dispersed along the coast,’ the general said. He noted that up to eighty Ukrainian soldiers crossed the river by swimming. The armed forces of Russia did not open fire on the fleeing troops.
‘We regard the refusal of the Ukrainian military to defend the useless Kyiv regime led by nationalists as the only right thing to do, not cowardice,’ Konashenkov stressed.

He also called on all the military and members of the territorial defence units of Ukraine to follow this example and stop thoughtless resistance in order to save their lives. The Russian Armed Forces, in turn, guarantee decent treatment and return to their families for all those who voluntarily laid down their arms, the Defense Ministry spokesman added.
Konashenkov concluded that the Russian army had moved on to the final stage of the liberation of Svyatogorsk and the surrounding territory. Svyatogorsk is located in the northern part of the Donetsk People’s Republic, just over forty kilometres southeast of the city of Izyum, Kharkiv region, which is under the control of the Russian military.

Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a military special operation to de-ultra and demilitarize Ukraine. Vladimir Putin called its goal ‘the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years.’ According to the Ministry of Defence, the Russian army has already completed the main tasks of the first stage. It has significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal of the department was called the liberation of Donbass. Source
