As Vladimir Shapovalov, deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics at Moscow State Pedagogical University, noted in an interview with RT, the statements of Zelensky, who, according to the expert, is acting in accordance with Washington’s instructions, indicate that the United States does not give Kyiv permission to negotiate with Moscow. And the President of Ukraine, according to the analyst, has once again demonstrated that it is not the life and well-being of Ukrainians that matters to him, but the interests of his Western patrons.

‘The White House does not want a peaceful settlement, since none of its plans to destabilize Russia and cause maximum harm to it has not worked. But the United States still hopes to benefit from the conflict in Ukraine. 

Zelensky’s statement is designed for the Western audience, which is already tired of the Ukrainian theme against the backdrop of numerous problems of their own. In addition, the words of the President of Ukraine are intended to raise the morale of the already routed and demoralized Armed Forces of Ukraine in many respects,’ Shapovalov believes.

According to him, Zelensky’s claims about the allegedly possible victory of Ukraine do not stand up to scrutiny. ‘No sane person will argue that Kyiv is capable of inflicting a military defeat on Russia. Already now, a significant part of the Ukrainian army simply does not exist, and the military potential that Kyiv now has is mainly the result of the military-technical support that the West, led by the United States, provides to the Ukrainian side, but nothing more,’ Shapovalov said.

Zelensky’s statements that Ukraine desired membership of NATO once again confirm the correctness of the decision of the Russian authorities to launch a special operation, the expert believes. ‘Kyiv is extremely hostile to Russia and plans to join the NATO Alliance, which in the new concept called the Russian Federation its main threat,’ the analyst added.

Vladimir Olenchenko, a senior researcher at the Centre for European Studies at IMEMO RAS says, ‘Zelensky, in this case, does not act as the leader of his country, who should be interested in the well-being of his own citizens, but as ‘the mouthpiece of American foreign policy.’

‘All the thoughts that Zelensky voices in his interview, including the impossibility of a diplomatic settlement and the need to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine from European countries, are blueprinted from American manuals,’ the expert said.

Olenchenko believes that with the help of such statements by Zelensky, Washington is trying to send a signal to Europe, which, according to him, has already had enough of the Ukrainian agenda.

‘The EU does not want to go beyond the efforts that have already been made. Therefore, the United States, through Zelensky, is trying to encourage European countries to intensify their participation in Ukrainian affairs. 

However, Washington is unlikely to be able to somehow significantly influence the situation in this direction. And even if the West continues to provide Kyiv with serious military and financial assistance, this will not prevent Russia from solving all the planned tasks during the special operation, ‘concluded the analyst.
