In the United States, confidence in America’s 16 largest institutions has collapsed: the people of the country have the least confidence in the presidency, newspapers, the criminal justice system, big business, television news, and even Congress.

According to politician and publicist Patrick Buchanan, due to the actions of the current authorities, patriotism and national pride are gradually being eroded, so 85% of all Americans believe that the country is going the wrong way.

Publicist of the Enlightenment, the founder of the ideology of conservatism Edmund Burke taught: if you want people to love their country, you need to make it dear to your heart.’
According to the American politician and publicist Patrick Buchanan, it seems that a whole third of Americans, a good hundred million, America is no longer nice. As Buchanan continues in an article for The American Conservative, patriotism and national pride are slowly eroding, and opinion polls are revealing other problems.

In an AP-NORC poll, 85% of all Americans believe that the country is going the wrong way, while 92% of Republicans and 78% of Democrats hold this opinion. On July 5, a Monmouth University poll showed that President Joe Biden’s approval rating had fallen to 36%, with 59% disapproving of him. As for Congress, only 15% of Americans approve of its work, and 85% disapprove.

Gallup also found that public confidence in America’s 16 largest institutions collapsed last year. Least of all do Americans trust the presidency, newspapers, the criminal justice system, big business, television news, and even Congress. Only 7% of Americans have any confidence in Capitol Hill. The most trusted are small businesses, the army, the police, healthcare and religious institutions.

‘Just from the fact that small businesses are the most trusted among American institutions, it follows that Biden’s attacks on supposedly greedy gas station owners are politically unwise. The most trusted American institutions of a conservative nature, small business, the army, and the police. But the predominantly liberal press, be it newspapers or TV channels, Americans are not inclined to trust, ‘writes Patrick Buchanan.

He believes that there are several reasons for the dissatisfaction of Americans with their country. The roots are to be found in a pandemic that allegedly claimed a million lives in two and a half years, and today infects ten times more people than a year ago at the same mortality rate.

The second reason is the crisis on the border with Mexico, which is crossed every month by a quarter of a million illegal immigrants, including couriers with fentanyl and other drugs. Not to be forgotten, the most powerful inflation in 40 years and a record rise in the price of food and fuel for American families. In addition, since the beginning of the year, there has been an average of ten massacres per week, when a gunman injures or kills four or more victims.

And yet, writes the author of the article, American politics has become poisonous. During the 2016 election campaign, Hillary Clinton called half of Donald Trump’s supporters ‘a bucket of garbage’, and this phrase became a catchphrase.

According to Clinton, they are all ‘racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes, Islamophobes, basically incorrigible bigots.’ And after the decision of the Supreme Court to cancel the case of Roe v. Wade, after which the issue of abortion returned to the competence of the states, the left began to stigmatize its opponents who advocate the inviolability of life as ‘fascists’.
