The politically correct British government agencies blew taxpayers’ money down the drain. Over the past four years, they have spent more than £200,000 on 266 gender-neutral toilets, according to the Daily Mail. Among other things, the Department of Labour and the Department of the Environment were at the centre of the scandal. Both departments have spent at least £160,000 on the opening of ‘unisex’ toilets, the newspaper notes.

At the same time, the Department of Defence has faced complaints over its gender-neutral latrines. An anonymous co-worker called the switch a disaster because now only men use them. ‘Most of my female colleagues now go to the women’s restrooms on other floors. Many are afraid when they have to visit a gender-neutral restroom, which is no longer gender-neutral, but purely masculine,’ says the author of one of the complaints.

This problem exists in other services as well. Last year, it was revealed that women working in the Interior Ministry visited the toilets of other departments, since in their own department many of the latrines were of a mixed type.

‘Taxpayers are sick of public employees spending money on unnecessary repairs,’ said John O’Connell, executive director of the Taxpayer Alliance, who helped the publication obtain the data. Moreover, according to him, the initiative of the departments runs counter to the government’s clear indication of the need to provide the required number of men’s and women’s toilets. Inflation in Britain is out of control and running at a 50-year high. It was recently reported that 2 million Britons are reduced to living on just one meal a day.

‘The idea that we have to spend money on refurbishing toilets at a time when the government is in a huge financial crisis demonstrates what a crazy world some Whitehall people live in,’ commented former minister John Hayes.
