Before a single cross had been placed on a ballot form the leaders of the Western alliance declared the referendum on Ukraine’s liberated territories to be ‘a sham’.

However, referendums on the issue of joining the territories of Russia are held in compliance with all democratic procedures. This is recognized by international observers, including those from unfriendly countries: the US, France, Italy, and Germany.

Representatives of foreign states noted the high level of organization of voting and the voluntary nature of the expression of will. At the same time, foreigners admit that some of them face big problems in their homeland because of the decision to oversee the electoral process in Donbas. According to experts, the authorities of Western states are trying to prevent international observers from telling the world community about the real situation in the territories liberated from the Kyiv regime.

Considering the dismal democratic credentials of those declaring the process to be a counterfeit the West’s sneering dismissal of the referendum was an orchestrated display of breath-taking chutzpah.

Scepticism over President Biden’s electoral success followed a highly flawed democratic process. The European Union is governed by two unelected presidents and 27 appointed commissioners. Latest polls suggest that UK premier Liz Twiss has the support of just 0.2 per cent of the population. The Kyiv regime is a one-party state in which independent media has been outlawed.

But was the outcome of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions referendum held between September 23 and 27 really that important?

Yes: The plebiscite is the most audacious development in the conflict since Moscow’s ‘Special Operations’ February response to NATO’s devious provocations. Soon after the polls closed on September 27 the breakaway republics and the Russian liberated Zaporozhye and Kherson regions become de facto part of the Russian Federation.

From this point, all NATO-Kyiv alliance attacks on the transferred territories will be recognized as assaults on the Russian federation itself. Such will not go without consequences that go far beyond Ukraine’s shrinking frontiers.

On September 20, Crimean Senator Olga Kovitidi told RIA Novosti that attacks by Kyiv on the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics after the announcement of the results of the referendums will be regarded as aggression against Russia. She added, no state in the world has the right to prevent the free expression of the will of people in the DPR, LPR and liberated territories.

On September 21 in his televised address to the nation, Putin pointed out that many Ukrainians were forced to become refugees whilst the remaining people living in these territories were under constant bombardment from the Washington-sponsored Kyiv regime.

Putin recalled that the parliaments of the republics of Donbas, as well as the administrations of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, asked Russia to support their initiative to hold a vote on the fate of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

The participants in the electoral process were asked three questions: “Are you in favor of secession of the Zaporozhye region from Ukraine, the formation of an independent state by the Zaporozhye region and its entry into the Russian Federation as a constituent entity of the Russian Federation?”

Polls taken before the referendum ensued revealed that 93% of the citizens in the Lugansk Peoples Republic (LPR) support accession to Russia. In the Zaporozhye region, 87% are ready to support it, and in the Kherson region, 80%. Having spurned negotiations over the status of the DPR and LPR the NATO-Kyiv alliance irreversibly loses a population of 7.5 million and a territory rich in natural resources.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the declaration of the people’s will. “From the very beginning, we said that the people should decide their fate. And the whole current situation confirms that they want to be masters of their own destiny.”

In response to the gathering storm, Putin on September 21 signed a decree authorizing the conscription of 300,000 former service personnel. Within four days of the announcement, a total of 500,00 armed forces reservists and veterans signed their fate over to the Russian state.

During a televised address Putin was adamant: “The main goals of the operation, the liberation of the entire territory of Donbas, have been and remain unchanged. We have no moral right to hand over people to be torn to pieces by executioners. We cannot but respond to their sincere desire to determine their own fate. We will support the decision that people make there.”

Then in response to Washington’s pledge to use the first strike option, Putin said: “Nuclear blackmail has also come into play. To those who allow such statements, I would like to remind you that our country will use all means to protect our people. It’s not a bluff. Those who are trying to blackmail Russia with nuclear weapons should be aware that the weathercock can turn in their direction.”

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was equally forthright: “I emphasize that today we are at war not so much with Ukraine or the Ukrainian army, but with the collective West including NATO.

“When we talk about this, we mean not only the weapons that are supplied in huge quantities but also the NATO communication systems, information processing systems and intelligence systems, satellite intelligence. The entire NATO satellite constellation is working for them.

We understand that at the initial stage, the armed forces of Ukraine were about 201,000. Since, their losses are more than 100,000, 61,207 people and 49,368 more wounded. This is half the army lost. Our losses today are 5,937 dead and more than 90% returned to duty. Mícheál Walsh
