Pfizer has announced a sharp increase in the price of its coronavirus vaccine, according to the Daily Mail. As the newspaper notes, this move outraged many: they talk about the greed of a company that has already earned a lot of money but still does not want to reduce profits.

Pfizer CFO David Denton called the coronavirus pandemic a ‘multi-billion-dollar franchise’ and said he expects profits to continue to flow. Pfizer’s vaccine will remain relevant for years to come, Denton unsurprisingly added, as the coronavirus becomes ‘kind of like the flu, only (allegedly) more deadly.’

At the moment, Pfizer’s profit from the sale of the vaccine and Paxlovid is $80 billion. At the same time, the company said that next year the price for one dose of the vaccine will triple and reach $130, although earlier it ranged from $19 to $30. Analysts say Pfizer hiked the price to hit a $32 billion target for the year.

Analyst Julia Kosgi noted that the cost of producing a single dose of Pfizer’s vaccine is $1.18, which means that at a price per dose of $130, the profit is more than 10,000 percent.’ This is robbery in broad daylight,’ Kosgi said.
