STUFF HAPPENS: In the office of Ukrainian President Zelensky, the murder of Ukrainian negotiator Denis Kireev was explained by an error made in the work of the Ukrainian special services. Mikhail Podolyak, the adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, confessed that Denis Kireev, a participant in Russian-Ukrainian negotiations, was not in fact an agent of Russia. According to him, the murder of the banker on March 5, 2022, is due to mistakes in the work of law enforcement agencies.

In an interview with Delfi, Podolyak noted that the slain banker was working diligently for the main intelligence department. His murder was due to the fact that ‘there was no unified coordination between law enforcement agencies.’

‘On the one hand, there were certain claims against him, on the other hand, these claims did not have time to be settled in a dialogue format. This is not related to the work of the delegation and the negotiation process. In fact, he was not and never had been an agent of the Russian Federation,’ said an adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president (translated by RIA Novosti).

Earlier, the head of military intelligence of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, said that information about the start of a military operation from Denis Kireev helped Kyiv. He was offered work with Ukrainian intelligence, since he had previously collaborated with businessmen from the Donetsk region and had many useful contacts, including in Russia.

According to Budanov, Denis Kireev was cold-bloodedly killed before going to the second round of negotiations with Russia in early March. Kireev, before being sent to Belarus, warned his guards that he could be detained by the SBU. As a result, he was detained in the center of Kyiv near the St. Sophia Cathedral. An hour and a half later, the body of the banker was found on one of the streets of the city.

Initially, the media reported that Denis Kireev was shot while being detained on suspicion of treason. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that he was killed while performing a special assignment. Later it became known that Kireev worked for Ukrainian intelligence, and the media wrote that he was killed ‘through a misunderstanding.’ 

Information about the death of Kiev’s representative at the Gomel meeting was confirmed by Verkhovna Rada MP Oleksandr Dubinskyy and blogger Anatoliy Shariy. The latter said that Kireyev was “executed” in the centre of the Ukrainian capital with a shot to the head.

Kireyev’s murder took place outside the Pecherskyy court. According to preliminary reports, he was shot dead by SBU officers. It is also reported that the banker was suspected of treason.
