BREAKING NEWS: Violence, property damage, sexual crimes, weapons and drugs – train stations in Germany are characterized by increased danger, and we are talking not only about the largest of them, according to the German television channel ZDF.

Even at stations that are not among the most visited in Germany, crime levels were high last year, according to ZDF. According to the federal government’s response to a question from the AfD parliamentary group, Nuremberg Main Station, for example, was one of the top three stations in 2022 where the federal police recorded the most sexual, violent and property damaged crimes.

Hannover Central Station was second only to Hamburg in terms of violent crimes last year, ahead of Nuremberg, and third in terms of gun crimes.

More gun and drug crimes were reported at Dortmund’s main station during the same period than at any other German long-distance railway station.

According to the German government, Düsseldorf’s main railway station is also among the most dangerous stations for these two groups of offences.

According to reports from the German police, most property and sexual crimes were registered at Cologne Central Station.

According to the German railway company Deutsche Bahn, the most visited railway station nationwide is Hamburg Central Station, followed by Frankfurt am Main and Munich Central Stations. Nuremberg is not among the ten stations with the largest number of travelers and visitors – which, however, does not save him from a significant number of offenses.

The crime data is taken from the statistics of cases received by the German police, so it differs from the police crime statistics, where the data is collected after the investigation has been completed, the German TV channel explains. The number of detected violations is also affected by the density of inspections in the relevant area.

Comparing the data to the previous year doesn’t make much sense, ZDF noted, as the coronavirus protection measures in 2021 still have a significant impact on the mobility of citizens – and therefore on the number of people in public places.
