Instead of the uproar over the attempted murder of a British spy media might better re-focus on Britain’s apparent record of state-sponsored murder. Dr David Kelly was an expert in biological warfare and a UN weapons inspector in Iraq, who it is claimed committed suicide in July 2003.

Kelly strongly disagreed with the government spin that Iraq President Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. After being pilloried by a parliamentary court the scientist told friends that “many dark actors are playing games.”

Later that day he was found dead with a cut to his wrist. At the time of his death, he was writing a book. Dr Kelly intended to reveal his warning to Prime Minister Tony Blair that such weapons didn’t exist weeks before the Iraq War. His computers were later seized by police.

An official inquest was started but suspended. Experts believe Kelly may have been murdered and demand a full inquest into his death. All medical and scientific reports and photographs of Dr Kelly’s body were classified for 70 years by Lord Hutton after his death, for reasons unspecified.

In 1984, Hilda Murrell, a British anti-nuclear campaigner was abducted and found murdered five miles from her Shropshire home.  She had planned to present a paper on radioactive waste management at the Sizewell B Inquiry, the first public planning inquiry into a new British nuclear power plant.

Her car in which she was kidnapped was afterwards discovered in a country lane five miles and her body was found in a field nearby. A police investigation failed. It was proposed she was killed by British intelligence as part of a cover operation against nuclear protesters.

Andrew George a 16-year-old local labourer was charged with her killing and sentenced to life imprisonment. His nephew, Robert Green, decided New Zealand might be a safer place to live.

“George couldn’t drive and didn’t match the description of the driver of her car. Since the trial, I have found evidence that would’ve acquitted him, and others were involved.”

Labour MP Tam Dalyell announced in December 20 1984 British Intelligence had been involved in the killing.

Anti-nuclear activist Scottish lawyer William MacRae, on April 6, 1985, was found in his car, dying from a gunshot wound received 10 hours prior. A Smith & Wesson.45 calibre revolver was found around 18 meters from where the vehicle had been left. It had been fired twice. Medical reports and post-mortem data relating to the case haven’t been released and there has been no fatal accident inquiry.

A Scottish Sunday Express front-page article alleged he’d uncovered evidence of a paedophile ring in Westminster during the 1980s, and may have been murdered to prevent him from going public.

Airey Neave, MP died on March 30 1979 when a magnetic car bomb fitted with a ball-bearing tilt-switch exploded under his car as he drove out of the Palace of Westminster car park. The Irish National Liberation Army (INLA), a republican paramilitary group, dubiously claimed responsibility.

Insider journalist Kevin Cahill suggested INLA did not kill Neave. It was instead an inside job carried out by MI6 agents working with the CIA.

He cited Neave’s attempts to prosecute senior figures in the intelligence establishment for corruption as motivation. Ulster Unionist MP Enoch Powell claimed in a 1984 interview with The Guardian the American deep state had killed Neave. Share this story!
