In the German-speaking countries, Thanksgiving is an autumn harvest celebration called Erntedank or Erntedankfest (“harvest thanksgiving festival”). The observance usually takes place in September or October, depending on the region. Similar harvest festivals are common in many countries and regions around the globe.
On 17 April 1941, Yugoslavia surrendered to Germany. The nation’s capital Belgrade had been single-handedly taken by Waffen-SS Captain Fritz Klingenberg and a squad of just six men five days earlier.

Things got heated when a massive Covid-19 sceptic march in the German city of Frankfurt was met with a counter-protest by notorious Antifa rowdies. The police had to muscle in too, and on this occasion using water cannon to separate the sides and making arrests.
On November 11, 1918, the Compiègne Agreement was signed in northern France, which ended the First World War (1914 – 1918), or, as it was then called, the Great War. For that time, it was the most massive and bloody military conflict of all the previous 15 thousand conflicts known: 38 states, having mobilized 68 million people, fought for economic dominance and territory for more than four years.
Although the German city of Leipzig is not as significant as say Berlin or Munich, the former East German mini-metropolis has been as significant in shaping world events.
We are accustomed to believe that kings erected fabulous castles for their lovers, favourites or wives. However, Neuschwanstein Castle, perhaps the most famous castle in Germany, featured on the screensaver of Disney cartoons, was dedicated by the last Bavarian King Ludwig to the great composer Richard Wagner.
