During the Romanov period (1613-1922) the banking houses of Wall Street New York, Frankfurt am Maine and London were alien to all things Russian. Before the Russian Tragedy in 1917 the population of Imperial Russia stood at 182 million.
However, the 1990 census revealed that Russia’s population had dramatically reduced to just 143 million during and after the Soviet occupation of Russia. In 1914, before the Bolshevik seizure of Imperial Russia, there were listed 54,174 Christian churches, 25,593 chapels, 1,025 monasteries, military churches and cemetery chapels. By 1987 only 6,893 churches and 15 monasteries remained.

This is testimony to the attitude of the Soviet government to the Jews, only Bolshevik Jewry destroyed the Christian churches. Throughout the Soviet Union, Jewish synagogues remained untouched. The Bolsheviks mass murdered, sent to the Gulag penal colonies or local prisons only Christian clergy and the adherents of the Church. Jewish rabbis walked freely and were inviolable.
In Russia, merely for celebrating Christian holidays, such as Christmas, Christians were too terrified to perform their Christian rites and follow the customs of the Orthodox Faith. Those who prevailed were martyred.
According to the official report of Alexander Yakovlev, from 1917 to 1985, as many as 200,000 clergymen of various denominations were murdered in the Soviet Union, and a further 300,000 were imprisoned. In this fight, various Bolsheviks, especially J. Jaroslawski (Miniej Izraelilewicz Gubelman), stood out particularly strongly for many years, leading the incredibly aggressive Union of the Bad Fellows.

The most popular theory about the origin of April Fool’s Day involves the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century.
The theory goes like this: In 1564 France reformed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to January 1. Those who failed to keep up with the change, who stubbornly clung to the old calendar system and continued to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25th and April 1st, had jokes played on them. Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were thus called Poisson d’Avril, or April Fish — which, to this day, remains the French term for April Fools — and so the tradition was born.
