48% of voters are ready to support right and far-right them in the upcoming elections to the European Parliament, reports Le Figaro. The parties of the left fell in the rankings due to disagreements over the police and the controversial position of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Several recent nights of near revolution have left the French electorate with bitter memories that are beginning to influence their political preferences. Less than a year before the elections to the European Parliament, which will be held in June 2024 in all EU member states, including France, voters are increasingly supporting the lists of candidates from parties that adhere to a tough position on migration and security.
According to a poll conducted on July 4 and 5 by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) for Sud Radio and released on Friday, 48% of French people intend to vote for the right-wing bloc, which includes the National Rally, the Republicans, the Reconquista party and the Arise France movement. The article notes that this is a real leap forward because in a similar study two months ago, the right received 6% less votes.
The French newspaper clarifies that the participants in the study were presented with electoral lists that were headed by various political figures. Thus, the list of the National Association led by Jordan Bardell received the most support – 26% of respondents (+1%) voted for it. Next comes the Republican Party and its nominees François-Xavier Bellamy and Michel Barnier, who were supported by 11% of respondents (+3%). 7% of voters (+1%) are ready to vote for the Reconquista party and its leaders, Eric Zemmour and Marion Marechal, while Arise, France received 4% of the vote (+1%).

The presidential majority and the government had to manoeuvre between condemning the murder of a black teenager and supporting the police, but the joint list of the Renaissance, the Democratic Movement and the Horizons party, headed by Stefan Sejourne, was supported by 20% (+ 1%) of the poll participants.
The main blow to electoral chances was taken by the left. Among them, the lists of socialists and greens were among the leaders – 9% (-1%) of the votes each. 2% fewer voters are ready to vote for the ‘Unbowed France’ than before its rating has decreased from 10% to 8%. The Socialist Party won only 4% (-1%) of the vote. Le Figaro attributes this decline in confidence in the left to the great disagreement over the police issue and the controversial position of Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
