Fake Olympics ~ Fake Commentaries

An A1-generated digital clone is set to do much of the commentary on the Paris Olympics.

It is the first time that AI technologies have become part of such a large-scale event. Presumably, the applause will be random and canned too.

And, how can an Olympics be international if it excludes the world’s largest country and its internationally acclaimed athletes for political reasons?

The 2024 Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, will be commentated by an AI copy of the announcer. This was reported by The New York Times.

The original will be 79-year-old sports announcer and TV host Al Michaels. The real-life commentator already voiced the Olympic Games decades ago. Michaels has also commentated on football matches.

Mass media company NBCUniversal, together with the streaming service Peacock, will use A1-generated neural networks to copy the man’s voice.

AI will analyze hundreds of hours of recordings from Sunday Night Football broadcasts.

This way, the algorithms will be able to build realistic sentences, as well as imitate the emotions and intonations of the announcer. Do feel free to applaud the algorithms.

The developers are going to A1 generate about 7 million different phrases that will be used during sports performances. If the experiment is successful, NBCUniversal plans to further develop AI announcers. Perhaps the generated commentators and TV hosts will appear in other shows.

The New York Times reporters believe that the decision is ‘almost certain to attract interest, given the novelty of its AI technology.’ However, experts believe that the risks of ‘hallucination,’ false and inappropriate statements could seriously damage reputations, especially when it comes to such a high-profile event as the Olympics.

However, A1-generated news stories broadcast by radio and television broadcasting companies and print media published by mainstream media news desks are now A1-generated. 1. I’m not impressed by AI; I debated AI concerning several theological subjects. After several exchanges, it finally admitted that I was correct. I found its responses wishy-washy and evasive. If AI is the best they can come up with, we have nothing to fear. I totally reject the AI fetish now in vogue.
